ICD-10 online (WHO version 2019)

As limb pain is colloquially any sensation of pain in the extremities . In the plural form, limb pain is also used in medical literature for the combination of predominantly symmetrical myalgia (muscle pain), arthralgia (joint pain) and ostealgia (bone pain).

description

Usually the pain is described as pulling, occasionally also as stabbing. The complaints can affect only individual limbs or all extremities. Pains in the limbs can occur temporarily or have a chronic character - in most cases limb pains are not an independent clinical picture , but merely a symptom.

causes

Infectious diseases / infections

The most common cause is a flu-like infection . But also with other infections, such as measles , mumps or COVID-19 , body aches occur.

The pain results from the immune reaction against the pathogen, the release of pain-causing messenger substances, for example prostaglandins. Usually the symptom will go away after the infection heals.

Autoimmune disease

Rheumatism , gout, and arthritis are also classic causes of body aches.

Other causes

In premenstrual syndrome (PMS), headaches or concentration disorders can also occur as a result of body aches.

Polyneuropathy can also trigger generalized pain in the limbs.

More rarely, Raynaud's syndrome , a circulatory disorder in the hands and feet, is the cause of pain in the limbs.
