HD 85512 b (also Gliese 370 b ) is an extrasolar planet , the HD 85512 , a K-type star , orbits. The planet is approximately 36 light years from Earth and is in the constellation Vela .

The planet is on the inner edge of the habitable zone , far enough away from its central star that water still occurs in liquid form. Due to its mass of 3.6 Earth masses, it is one of the super-earths .

discovery

HD 85512 b was discovered by scientists from the University of Geneva , led by Swiss astronomer Stéphane Udry of the GTO program of HARPS (High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher) on August 17th, 2011.
