A mica capacitor is an electrical capacitor with the material mica as a dielectric.

Mica is a naturally occurring mineral with a high dielectric strength and a layered structure. It consists of potassium - aluminum - silicates with chemically bound crystal water and can be split into thin flakes down to a thickness of about 0.02 mm. Mica was used in electronics as a dielectric for capacitors from around 1920 and is still of some importance today, especially in the United States , as a silver mica capacitor ( Mica : English for mica ). Mica capacitors are used because of the low temperature coefficient , the almost frequency- independent loss factor and the high dielectric strength in transmitter technology as high-frequency capacitors and because of the great temporal capacitance constancy in measurement standards and in filter and resonant circuit applications for high requirements.
