Glockenspielhaus in Bottrop

The Bottrop Glockenspiel is a glockenspiel consisting of 25 bronze bells on the facade of the house at Hansastraße 10 in Bottrop .

history

In 1957, master watchmaker and goldsmith Gerd Triffterer (* 1927 in Aschendorf / Emsland, † 2009 in Bottrop) began planning the carillon until it was inaugurated in November 1963.

The 25 bronze bells with a total weight of 1085 kilograms were cast by a Dutch specialist company. In 2007 the carillon and clockwork were restored and the steel suspensions for the bells on the facade were renewed.

The carillon

The bells are operated by electromagnetically operated hammers. The electromagnets are controlled from the gaming table via a cable connection. The gaming table also has a mechanism that can be used to automatically play pieces previously recorded on a punched tape, in contrast to a classic carillon , which requires a mechanical connection by means of tension wires between the gaming table and the clappers and hammer hammers of the bells.

For the carillon there are 17 roles with songs of the seasons, rifle festival and Christmas carols up to the general folk song. In 1982 a miner's figure was placed on the largest bell as a symbol of the history of the region. In addition, five clocks are part of the glockenspiel: a mother clock with Central European time and four world clocks that show the times of New York City, Tokyo, Sydney and Cape Town. All have their own clockwork. The "clock ensemble" was supplemented in 1994 by the erection of the external grandfather clock.
