The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1964 after John Framcos Glover (* 1940), the third machinist on the research vessel RRS John Biscoe between 1962 and 1963 to support the work of the Royal Navy's hydrographic surveying unit , which this group first mapped in 1963.
