Glycerolipid
A glycerolipid is a lipid in which the non-polar side chains are covalently bound to a glycerol .
properties
Glycerolipids are mono- to triple-substituted glycerols. Glycerolipids are the most common naturally occurring form of neutral fats and membrane lipids . The glycerolipids include some representatives of the ester lipids (the triacylglycerides and the phosphatidic acid derivatives such as phosphatidylethanolamine , phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine ), the glycoglycerolipids (such as digalactosyldiacylglycerols in plants and seminolipids in spermatozoa ) and the ether lipids . The glycerophospholipid phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate and the ether lipids plasmalogen and the platelet-activating factor are used as messenger substances .
