The Chapel of Grace

The listed Gnadenkapelle is located at Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße 13 in the town of Altenburg in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

From 1868 to 1869 the church was built as the first place of worship for the Altenburg Roman Catholic parish after the Reformation. In the year of completion, the church was consecrated on July 4, 1869 in the name of Epiphania Domini - Apparition of the Lord .

After the Second World War , the church with 120 seats was too small for the many refugees. After the Church of the Epiphany was consecrated in 1950 , the house was used by the evangelical community.

Since 1994 the archive of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Altenburg has been housed in the Gnadenkapelle. In the meantime it was up for sale.

In 2017, the Chapel of Grace was bought by tax advisor and musician Enrico Landgraf for around 38,000 euros.
