Greg Kelley

Greg Kelley (* 1973 in North Attleborough , Bristol County, Massachusetts ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( trumpet , electronics, also percussion , vocals ) who, like Nate Wooley and Peter Evans,pushes the musical-technical-physical boundaries radically expanded his instrument ”.

Live and act

Kelley learned the trumpet when she was ten. He first studied in Baltimore at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University before returning to Boston. He was a member of the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra in the late 1990s and founded the nmperign formation with Bhob Rainey ; he also worked with John Voigt , Paul Flaherty and Masashi Harada during this time . In 2000 he released the solo albums Trumpet and Empty Gestures . In the following years he worked in various duo, trio and band projects a. a. with Olivia Block , Anthony Braxton (Six Compositions (GTM) 2001) , James Coleman, Laurence Cook , Axel Dörner , Jason Lescalleet, Pauline Oliveros , Joe McPhee , John Shiurba , Weasel Walter and C. Spencer Yeh . In the field of jazz and improvised music he was involved in 29 recording sessions between 1996 and 2008. In Germany he appeared in Mazen Kerbaj's ARIHA Trumpet Ensemble in the NOWJazz session of the Donaueschinger Musiktage in 2014 .
