Mazen Kerbaj (* 1975 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese improvisation musician ( trumpet ), music producer , author and cartoonist .

Live and act

Mazen Kerbaj works as a comic artist, painter and musician; After various contributions to magazines (such as Wire , Lapin and Le tour du monde en bande dessinee ), he published his first book, Journal 1999 , in 2000 , a diary in comic form, as well as over eight other books and short story collections. His paintings, drawings and caricatures have been exhibited many times, including in the Janine Rubeiz gallery in Beirut and in the gallery of the New Society for Fine Arts in Berlin. In the summer of 2016, the temporary, independent exhibition initiative Café Beirut of the Griesbadgalerie in Ulm exhibited Mazen Kerbaj's drawings from 2012, when he captured every day of the year in a picture.

Mazen Kerbaj is also a co-founder of the Lebanese improvisation scene, for example as a member of the musicians' organization MILL , which has held the annual Irtijal Festival in Beirut since 2001 . In 2004 he co-founded the Al Maslakh Ensemble (with Paed Conca , among others ), in 2005 Al Maslakh was the first label for improvisation music in this region; In 2009 the sub-label Johnny Kafta's Kids Menu followed for alternative and experimental rock from Lebanon.
