Jarrod Cagwin

Jarrod Cagwin (* 1974 in Iowa ) is an American jazz percussionist.

Cagwin grew up on a farm in Iowa, took part in numerous regional and national competitions for young musicians and was awarded a 1992 scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music , which he graduated cum laude in 1996. There he was a student of Jamey Haddad and Glen Velez and studied South Indian drum technology with Trichy Sankaran at York University in Toronto in 1995 .

After completing his studies, he went to New York, where he a. a. Performed at the Knitting Factory and Tonic and worked as a studio musician. From 1997 he went on concert and study tours through Europe, the Middle East and North and West Africa, where he a. a. dealt with the music of the Ewe , Ga , Ashanti , Mandinka and Berber .

Cagwin has been a member of Rabih Abou-Khalil's band since 1999 . He also worked with Charlie Mariano , Michel Godard , Dusko Goykovich , Joe Beck , Joe Lovano , Dave Samuels , Gabriele Mirabassi , Emmanuelle Somer , Howard Levy , Gary Burton , Sainkho Namchylak , Nataša Mirković , Nenad Vasilić and others.
