Nenad Vasilić (born May 8, 1975 in Niš ) is an Austrian jazz musician (bass, composition, arrangement) of Serbian origin.

Live and act

Vasilić grew up with the rich folklore tradition of the Balkans ; he first learned the piano and then switched to the double bass . Traditional music, the music of the Roma and the love of jazz influenced him as a teenager. At the age of 16 he played as a bass player in the local jazz scene. After studying jazz at the University of Art in Graz , he moved to Vienna and has been a sought-after double bass player there ever since. He has worked with Richie Beirach , Petar Ralchev , Bojan Z , Steve Gut , Mark Murphy , Laurie Antonioli and Sheila Jordan, among others .

In 1998 he founded his own band. As a band leader and composer, Vasilić fuses the music of his homeland with jazz; the ORF has the basic idea described as "cosmopolitan Balkan jazz". He has released more than 40 original compositions on nine albums under his own name. In 2004 his album Nenad Vasilić Balkan Band Live: Joe Jack is Back was nominated for the Hans Koller Prize .
