The Bouçã dam ( Portuguese Barragem da Bouçã ) is located in the region of central Portugal . It dams the river Zêzere , which at this point forms the border between the districts of Castelo Branco and Leiria . The small town of Figueiró dos Vinhos is about six kilometers to the northwest .
It was completed in 1955 and is owned by the Companhia Portuguesa de Produção de Electricidade (CPPE).
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a double-curved concrete arch dam with a height of 63 (or 65) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 181 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 175 m. The volume of the structure is 70,000 m³.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 200 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 2,200 m³ / s via the flood discharge.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 175 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 5 km² and holds 48.4 (or 49) million m³ of water - of which 15.22 (or 7.9) million m³ can be used to generate electricity become.
power plant
With an installed capacity of 50 (or 44) MW, the Bouçã power plant is one of the smaller hydropower plants in Portugal. The average annual generation is 157.2 (or 140, 153.2 or 162) million kWh .
The Francis turbines and the generators were supplied by Siemens . The first machine went into operation in 1955, the second in 1956. You are in a machine house on the right side of the dam. The two turbines of the power plant each have a maximum output of 25 MW and the generators 28 MVA . The rated speed of the turbines is 214.3 / min (or 214). The nominal voltage of the generators is 6 kV . In the switchgear , the generator voltage of 6 kV is increased to 165 kV by means of power transformers.
The minimum height of fall is 52.5 m, the maximum 56.5 m. The maximum flow rate is 50 m³ / s.
The power plant is owned by CPPE but operated by Energias de Portugal (EDP).
