Ekhard Zinke

Ekhard Zinke (* 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer . From June 2004 until the end of January 2020 he was President of the Federal Motor Transport Authority .

Career

After attending school and doing military service , Zinke began studying law at the University of Hamburg . After the First State Examination in 1981 and the Second State Examination in 1985, he then worked for a short time as a lawyer, then joined the civil service of the German Federal Railroad , where he worked for about two years as a departmental head in the legal and financial services of the Federal Railroad Central Office in Minden was active. In 1988 he switched to the central department of the Federal Ministry of Transport as a consultant . In 1992 he took over the post of Head of Central Services at the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). On June 15, 2004, Zinke was appointed President of the KBA and successor to Wolfgang Barth , who was retiring. Zinke retired on January 31, 2020 and Richard Damm became his successor.

The VW emissions scandal also falls during Zinc's tenure . Since the end of 2016, there have been allegations that the KBA is looking the other way or is even deliberately covering the criminal practice of diesel manufacturers such as VW with lax inspection practices.
