Gnaeus Octavius (Consul 87 BC)
Gnaeus Octavius († 87 BC in Rome ) was a Roman politician of the late republic.
Octavius was a son and grandson of the two consuls of the same name from 128 BC. BC and 165 BC Chr . Lucius Octavius , who lived in 75 BC. Was consul, was probably his son.
100 BC Gnaeus Octavius was active against Lucius Appuleius Saturninus . About 90 BC He was praetor , 87 BC. He became consul. His fellow consul Lucius Cornelius Cinna , unlike Octavius, did not adhere to the arrangements that Sulla had made before he left Rome, and fled Rome when the dispute arose. When Cinna returned forcibly with the support of Gaius Marius , Octavius was unable to muster military forces against him (the proconsul Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo , who was lying with his army before Rome and nominally on his side, behaved and waited). He was taken by surprise and killed on the orders of Gaius Marcius Censorinus .
