gnuVocabTrain is a free vocabulary trainer that offers various query modes and setting options in a multilingual user interface. The software was written in Java and can therefore run on all operating systems for which a Java runtime environment is available. The program gained popularity in 2011 and is used in many public educational institutions.

Program description

The "Vocabulary Memory" function of gnuVocabTrain enables a playful learning of new vocabulary

With the vocabulary editor, vocabulary can be entered and summarized in vowel lists. Input help for Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Cyrillic, Latin special characters as well as phonetic transcription and self-defined special characters and character strings allow a variety of entries.

The vocabulary can be practiced in writing and orally; also by querying synonyms that can be sorted according to meaning groups.

A vocabulary memory is integrated for playful learning of new vocabulary (see picture). Statistics show the learning progress.
