The PC Praxis (also PC Pr @ xis ) was a 1987-2014 monthly published by Data Becker in Dusseldorf published computer magazine . The thematic concept was aimed - similar to the Computer Bild  - at computer users with limited specialist knowledge. The departments were divided into the areas of forum , Windows practice , PC practice DVD , practice test , hardware test , photo / video / music practice , mobile practice and internet practice .

history

The first issue of PC Praxis was published in 1987 as a special issue of the computer magazine "DATA WELT", which appeared from 1984 as a magazine with product tests and tips and tricks for home computer programming and soon reached a six-figure circulation. After the second special issue appeared in January / February 1988, it was initially published every two months from March / April before it became an independent monthly PC magazine when DATA-WELT was discontinued in September 1989.

Since 11/1998 every issue has been accompanied by a CD, since issue 4/2006 a DVD. These contained test and full versions of programs, free and shareware, security programs and drivers. Since issue 9/2005, so-called power packs have been included on the magazine DVDs at irregular intervals. A power pack was dedicated to a topic or article in the magazine and contained a full version and other smaller programs that cover the topic. For example, there were power packs for Windows Vista , video editing and similar topics.

The PC Praxis appeared monthly until the Data Becker publishing house in Düsseldorf , which in addition to magazines, also published books and software, was dissolved. In the last few years of the existence of the PC Praxis, the current issue was always sold at the beginning of the previous month. The magazine was discontinued at the end of 2013, the last issue published was the February 2014 edition. The remaining subscribers received the c't from Heise Zeitschriften Verlag seamlessly .

Reprimand

In 2007 the German Press Council reprimanded the magazine for violating the press code . It had reported on illegal and "semi-legal" software; a DVD with "semi-legal" software was included with the booklet. The press council saw this as a violation of journalistic principles; Editors and journalists should be “aware of their responsibility to the public and their duty to the reputation of the press”.

Circulation statistics

In the fourth quarter of 2012, the average monthly circulation according to IVW was 65,545 copies. That is 13.16 percent (9,933 issues) less than in the same quarter of the previous year. The number of subscribers fell within one year by 1,594 to 12,113 subscribers (−11.63%). 18.48 percent of the readers received the magazine by subscription.
