Go-nijō

Emperor Go-Nijō ( Japanese 後 二条 天皇 , Go-Nijō-tennō ; * March 9, 1285 ; † September 10, 1308 ) was the 94th Tennō of Japan (March 3, 1301-10 September 1308) in the Kamakura -Period . His proper name was Kuniharu ( 邦 治 ).

Go-Nijō was the firstborn son of the 91st emperor Go-Uda and belonged to the Daikakuji dynasty. The military power lay with the shogunate and the Hōjō family , who decided behind the scenes on the imperial hierarchy.

When Go-Nijō died at the age of 23, he left behind a young son. Go-Uda's attempt to bequeath the throne to his grandson failed. He was succeeded by Hanazono .
