Gobo
A gobo ( G raphical o ptical b paint o ut ) is a mask (originally from metal , today often made of glass ), in a spotlight or projector is plugged in to the stage or promotional logos , patterns, text or images to represent. The presentation is similar to a slide projection or with simpler devices as a shadow projection .
The advantage of this technique is the heat resistance of the gobos. In the past, these were cut from thin sheet metal . Certain shapes (for example the letter "O") could not be displayed perfectly. That is why sheet metal gobos were replaced by panes of glass. These are provided with a chrome layer , which is then partially removed by etching or with a laser . In order to enable colored representations, the chrome layer is combined with dichroic color filters .
