history

With the construction of the Berlin-Eberswalde railway line of the Berlin-Szczecin Railway in 1842, the city was looking for the shortest connection between the train station and the city center. In 1876, the community acquired a suitable area and built Victoriastraße there between 1882 and 1892 , which leads past the park to the west. It was in the Weimar Republic in Old Goethe street renamed. Two years after acquiring the street area, a pharmacist's garden was built in 1878 on the site of today's park . The city acquired this in the 1920s and had the Goethe Park, which still exists today, built there with a small pond. In the northern part there is a bronze sculpture by Friedrich Schötschel entitled Man with a goat . The commissioned work from 1989 shows the ambivalent relationship between humans and animals. The city originally demanded that Schötschel portray a man “who has to hold a goat in order to survive. This criticism of the situation of the workers in the 19th century was, however, been too boring. "Other sources report that in order to the couplet of Fredy victory is to be taken with respect. The actor and cabaret artist is known, among other things, for his lecture Wedding at Zickenschulze from Bernau .

In 2012, the city installed two sculptures by Jörg Steinert there. They are entitled “Day and Night”: While the “Day” sculpture was set up in August 2012, those interested in art could watch the artist create “Night” as artist in residence over the next two months .
