Geoff Waugh (* 25. August 1983 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player with Croatian citizenship, since in June 2015 Nottingham Panthers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League on the position of the defense plays.
Career
Waugh played during his junior years between 2000 and 2002 with the Kindersley Klippers in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the third round in 78th place by the Dallas Stars from the National Hockey League . The defender moved after the draft to Northern Michigan University , which played with its ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Waugh stayed with the team for four years.
In the summer of 2006, the defender joined the Johnstown Chiefs from the ECHL and came in the course of the 2006/07 season to ten missions in the American Hockey League with the Springfield Falcons . This was followed by two years with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL, before he moved to the Portland Pirates and Manitoba Moose in 2009 . His last stop on the North American continent was the Victoria Salmon Kings in the ECHL.
In summer 2011 Waugh moved to Europe and signed a contract with the Croatian club KHL Medveščak Zagreb , for which he was used in the Croatian ice hockey league , the Austrian Erste Bank ice hockey league (EBEL) and the supranational continental hockey league . In June 2014 he switched to EC VSV from the EBEL, but could not meet expectations there, so that he left the club after the 2014/15 season. In June 2015 he was signed by the Nottingham Panthers from the British Elite Ice Hockey League .
International
Waugh was naturalized in Croatia and was entitled to play for the Croatian national ice hockey team because he had already spent two full seasons with a Croatian team and had previously not recorded any international appearances for the Canadian national ice hockey team. He made his debut for Croatia in the 2014 Division IB World Cup . Waugh was able to contribute two scorer points in five tournament games and thus contribute to the surprising second place of the previous year's climber. With Alan Letang and Kenny MacAulay , two other native Canadians belonged to the Croatian World Cup squad.
At the World Cup of Division IB in 2015 , he went on the ice again for Croatia and was used in three tournament games.
