Goethestein (Bodetal)
The Goethestein is a granite slab protruding into the Bode river in the Bode valley in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt .
It is located on the left bank of the Bode between Königsruhe and Thale in the area of the city of Thale and can be reached from the hiking trail via a staircase leading down to the stone. In the immediate vicinity a little further downstream is the Goethefelsen .
On September 11, 1783, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Fritz von Stein are said to have had a lunch break on the granite slab , from which the name of the stone derives. Goethe is said to have examined the weathering cracks in the granite here.
