The Goethe Street is a street in Bad Freienwalde (Oder) . Six architectural monuments are listed in the street. A detailed list of the listed houses can be found in the list of architectural monuments in Bad Freienwalde (Oder) .

Location and history

The street begins at Wriezener Strasse and ends at Sonnenburger Strasse. It runs from northeast to southwest and thus almost parallel to Gesundbrunnenstrasse . First off Gartenstrasse, then Melcherstrasse crosses. Goethestrasse is a one-way street from Wriezener Strasse to the junction with Gartenstrasse. The house numbering starts on the left side, at the corner of Wriezener Straße and goes back in a horseshoe shape. The length of the street is about 680 meters.

In the 19th century, Goethestrasse was only a short walk, at that time the name was Alte Brunnenstrasse. In 1868 the road was paved. 1873 it was after Emperor I. Wilhelm renamed. This is where the upper Freienwalder bourgeoisie built their houses. Almost all of the houses date from 1790 to 1915. Most of them are villas in the style of historicism .

The houses

Six buildings are listed on Goethestrasse. The interesting architectural monuments are:

  • Goethestrasse, Jewish cemetery
  • Goethestrasse 4a, Urn Monument: The Urn Monument was erected in 1821. It is supposed to be reminiscent of an urn field which is about 3000 years old. The monument is a field stone obelisk about three meters high.
  • Goethestrasse 12, Catholic parish church Maria Hilf with rectory: The church was inaugurated on April 6, 1891. The rectory was built in 1897. The house is set far back, to the right of the choir. The church is a hall without a tower and is independent of the gable . The church was designed as a red brick building with a gable roof . The interior is mainly from around 1960.
  • Goethestrasse 15, Villa: The villa was built around 1900. The villa consists of two parts, a two-storey gable part and a single-storey eaves part that adjoins on the left. The gable part has a hipped roof , the eaves part has a gable roof. On the left is a veranda , on the right an arbor .
  • Goethestrasse 17, tower villa with ancillary building and enclosure: According to the weather vane, the villa was built in 1899. The house was a residential building until 1945, after which it served as a health department and as a support facility for children who were unable to attend school. The villa is two-story and has a tower. The facade and the roof are provided with bay windows , arbor, risalit and gable, whereby field stone, sandstone frames, ornamental framework and copper sheet were used.
  • Goethestraße 26, villa with outbuildings: The villa was built before 1898.
  • Goethestraße 27, Villa: The villa was built around 1895.
