Gokinjo Monogatari ( Japanese ご 近 所 物語 ) is a manga series by Ai Yazawa that appeared in Japan from 1995 to 1997. An anime television series and film were produced based on the manga. The plot is partially continued with the series Paradise Kiss .

Mikako Kōda, a sophomore high school student, is taking a clothing design class at Yazawa Art Academy. Her dream is to become a designer and have her own branded business. The story is about her love for her neighbor, Tsutomu Yamaguchi, and her relationships with the friends who surround her.

- Mikako Kōda: She is the main character and the high school student. She has a great talent for fashion design. She is Tsutomu's childhood friend. She wins the main prize of the fashion show at the cultural festival during school days, and studies abroad. She becomes a designer at the end of the story.
- Tsutomu Yamaguchi: He is Mikako's childhood friend. Its face resembles that of a monkey. His hobby is to make strange objects. He became interested in cameras through the influence of Mikako's father and ended up becoming a professional photographer.
publication
The manga was published from February 1995 to October 1997 in the manga magazine Ribon published by Shueisha in Japan. The individual chapters were also published in seven anthologies.
From April 2005 to March 2006 Egmont published manga and anime a German translation of all volumes. Akata published a French version and Planet Manga an Italian one. The manga was also published in Taiwan.
Anime adaptations
In 1995 the Toei Animation studio produced an anime television series based on the manga. Directed by Atsutoshi Umezawa and artistic director Shinzo Yuki held. Yashihiko Makoshi and Yoshihiko Umakoshi were responsible for the character design.
The series aired from September 10, 1995 to September 1, 1996 on TV Asahi on Sunday morning programs. In 1996 the half-hour film Gokinjo Monogatari came out for the series . An Italian version was shown by Italia 1 from August 1998 .

The music for the series was composed by Masahiro Kawasaki . The song He.Ro.IN , sung by Rumi Shishido, was used for the opening credits . The two end credits were underlaid with the titles Don't You Know ?! and NG! , also sung by Rumi Shishido.
