Golden State

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Golden State (German Golden State ) is the official nickname of the US state California .

California has officially had the nickname since 1968, but the term has been used to refer to the state on the American west coast since the 19th century . The name is originally derived from the California gold rush between 1848 and 1854, when the state of California, which was formally founded in 1850, was the destination of many immigrants due to its rich gold deposits . As a result of the gold rush, the term “golden state” was coined early on, and it is now well known around the world.

The Golden Gate area around the city of San Francisco and the name Golden State Warriors for a professional basketball team based there are allusions to the nickname of California's Golden State . The neighboring state of Nevada has the nickname Silver State based on its silver deposits .
