September 3, 1972 went down in German track and field history as the Golden Sunday .
On this day, the athletes won the Federal Republic of Germany at the 1972 Olympics in Munich by
- Klaus Wolfermann in the javelin throw (90.48 meters)
- Hildegard Falck in the 800 meter run (1: 58.6 minutes, world record)
- Bernd Kannenberg over 50 km of walking (3: 56: 11.6 hours)
three gold medals.
This day was rounded off by Heide Rosendahl winning the silver medal in the pentathlon .
From a Federal Republican point of view, this track record remained unmatched until German reunification .
