Goldthorpe

Goldthorpe is an English village in South Yorkshire .

The village is in the Dearne Valley mining district . Two young people died in Goldthorpe during the miners' strike in 1984. The last mine in the region closed in Goldthorpe in 1994 . The village became known nationwide when a mock funeral was celebrated on the death of Margaret Thatcher in April 2013 .

The breeder Ferdinand Heine named the barley variety "Heines Goldthorpe" after this place .
