John Goldthorpe

John Harry Goldthorpe (born May 27, 1935 in Great Houghton , Yorkshire ) is a British sociologist . He published his most famous studies on social structure together with David Lockwood .

Life

Goldthorpe studied at the University of London and the London School of Economics and taught until his retirement as professor at Nuffield College of Oxford University . He is an external member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and has been a full member of the Academia Europaea since 1989 .

He developed a model of professional organization, the so-called Goldthorpe class schema (English Goldthorpe class schema , also Erikson, Goldthorpe, Portocarero, EGP for short).
