Golfo de Santa Clara , often El Golfo de Santa Clara , is a village on the northern edge of the Gulf of California with about 4,000 residents in Sonora , Mexico . Administratively it belongs to the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado . Along with San Felipe (Baja California) and Puerto Peñasco , the village is home to one of the three most important fishing communities in the northern Gulf of California. It is connected via the Carretera estatal 003 de Sonora to the administrative center of San Luis Río Colorado , which is about 115 km further north .
