James Hormel

James Hormel (born January 1, 1933 in Austin , Minnesota ) is an American diplomat .

Life

Hormel studied history at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania until 1955 and law at the University of Chicago until 1958 , where he later worked as a university professor. In 1981 he co-founded the Human Rights Campaign organization . Hormel was a member of the UN Human Rights Commission and in 1996 a member of the US delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations . He was also on the boards of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the American Foundation for AIDS Research. In 1995 he was the founder of the James C. Hormel Gay & Lesbian Center at the San Francisco Public Library . From June 29, 1999 to 2001, Hormel was the successor to Clay Constantinou as Ambassador of the United States in Luxembourg . In his first marriage he was married to Alice Turner since 1955 and has five children with her. In his second marriage, Hormel is married to Michael Nguyen and lives with him in San Francisco .
