Goran Kovačević (* 1971 in Schaffhausen ) is a Swiss accordionist and composer .

Live and act

Kovačević received his first lessons from his mother at the age of 6. As a child of Yugoslav emigrants, Eastern European folklore was his first musical reference. He studied the folklore of Eastern European countries intensively and deepened his accordion playing with Ljubisa Pavković and Vladeta Kandić “Bata Kanda” in Belgrade .

In Switzerland he attended the Lobsiger music school in Schaffhausen and prepared intensively for his studies with Max Ruch. He later studied at the Winterthur Conservatory (Switzerland) and at the State University of Music in Trossingen (Germany) with Hugo Noth. Masterclasses at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Stefan Hussong , with Ivano Battiston in Florence, with Friedrich Lips from Moscow, with Ivan Koval Weimar and Joseph Macerollo at the University of Toronto complemented his artistic training.

Kovačević is the winner of international competitions such as Coupe Mondiale, the International Accordion Competition in Klingenthal, Mozarteum Salzburg, DAAD Prize Bonn, multiple Young Ears Prize Berlin. He is regularly invited as an external accordion expert at the universities of Lucerne and Bern. He is a regular member of the jury at the Coupe Suisse de l'Accordeon and Prima la Musica competitions in Austria. Since 1999 Goran Kovačević has been professor for accordion and chamber music at the State Conservatory in Feldkirch (Austria). As a soloist and chamber musician in various formations, his concert tours have taken him through Europe, America and Asia.

Kovačević composed theater and film music for accordion with string quintet, wind instruments, choir and symphony orchestra. In his compositions he increasingly devotes himself to the subject of merging different genres in an effort to overcome cultural boundaries with music. By combining the core elements from different traditions, such as alpine music, Balkans, jazz, classical, musette and tango, he developed his own sound language. So far (2017) he has published 47 CDs with works from the classical, modern, virtuoso light music, folklore, jazz and tango-nuevo.

In April 2017, Kovačević was awarded the recognition prize of the St. Gallen Cultural Foundation, which is awarded to personalities and projects that are characterized by continuity and a high level.
