The Gorky Park ( Russian Цэнтральны дзіцячы парк імя Максіма Горкага , full translation: Maxim Gorki Central Children's Park ) is a public city park in the Belarusian capital Minsk . It is located near Victory Square and Janka Kupala Park .

In 1800 the park was opened under the name "Governor's Garden". During the Soviet era it was named after the famous Russian or Soviet writer Maxim Gorky . Parks with his name were set up in many cities of the Soviet Union.

The park is home to an amusement park with a 54 meter high Ferris wheel . There is also a public observatory with a planetarium and an ice rink .
