Gothaplast is the brand name of Gothaplast Verbandpflasterfabrik GmbH in Gotha, Thuringia .
history
In 1944, the pharmaceutical entrepreneur Carl Blank, who had already founded a bandage plaster factory in Bonn in 1908 , received an order from the responsible Reich Ministry to set up a branch in Central Germany because of fear of bombing by the Allies . The choice of location was the responsibility of the young Swiss entrepreneur Hans Conrad Wirz (1912–1999) won for this factory . The supply of skilled workers, the central German location, the level of awareness and the city's infrastructure led Wirz to choose Gotha. In May 1944, Carl Blank KG, bandage plaster factory, Gotha branch in the industrial area of Kindleber Strasse in Gotha was founded.
Shortly after the war , in 1946, SMAD took over management of the Swiss operations. Wirz renamed it Pflasterfabrik Hans C. Wirz, Gotha and managed it as a foreign company. End of 1950, which took over the GDR , the management of the company and named the products Blank plastic and trauma Plast in Gothaplast and Wirgoplast order. Until 1970 the company was part of the VVB Pharmazeutische Industrie Berlin and was then incorporated into the VEB Jenapharm . Wirz received a severance payment for the sale of private labels, inventory, and raw materials. In the course of modernization, the company was relocated to Siebleben from 1978 to 1982 , where it is still based today on the street named after its founder.
As the sole manufacturer of bandage plasters in the GDR, the production facility was also the largest and most modern plaster factory in the Eastern Bloc .
