The von Gotsman family (also Gotzmann or Gottsmann ) was a Frankish noble family.

history

The von Gotsman family was mentioned as early as the 11th century. The family owned the Büg manor near Eckental . She had sat at Thurn Castle since 1399 and later called herself Gotzmann von Thurn zu Neuhaus, Büg, Brand and Stopfenheim . Family members were relatives of the Fürspänger . Because of their possessions, the family was organized in the knight canton of Gebürg .

Hans Georg von Gotsman was enfeoffed with Neuhaus Castle (Neuhaus-Schierschnitz) in 1532 , on which his family had previously provided the Saxon bailiffs.

The genealogist Johann Gottfried Biedermann designed a family tree in the 18th century. At this point, the male line of the family was already extinct. After Biedermann, the family provided several canons in Würzburg , Bamberg and Eichstätt . As far as he knew , the family with Hans Friederich Gottsmann zum Thurn died out on Neuenhaus, Büg, Brand and Stopffenheim in the male line. He was a councilor of the Electorate of Saxony , chamberlain and bailiff of Heldrungen and was last mentioned in 1575 in connection with tax payments in the context of belonging to Franconian knight cantons .

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the soaring black trunk of an ibex with a red tongue on a gold background. The helmet covers are black and gold. The crest repeats the motif of the coat of arms with the ibex.
