Gottardo Aldighieri
Gottardo Aldighieri ( January 6, 1824 in Lazise - May 11, 1906 in Verona ) was an Italian opera singer ( baritone ).
Life
Aldighieri was trained by Jacopo Foroni and Lombardi in Verona. In Milan he completed his singing studies with Giovanni Battista Lamperti .
He appeared for the first time in 1858 at the Teatro Nuovo in Novara as "Giorgio Germont" in Verdi's La traviata . During his career he sang at all the major Italian opera houses. On November 29, 1869 he was the first "Raoul" in Gabriella di Vergy by Donizetti. In 1875 he was at La Scala in Milan. On April 8, 1876 he was the first "Barnaba" in the world premiere of the opera La Gioconda by Ponichelli.
Aldighieri was known for both his powerful, beautiful voice and an extensive repertoire. He wrote the text for the famous waltz song Il Bacio , which the composer Luigi Arditi also dedicated to him.
He was married to the opera singer Maria Spezia-Aldighieri (1828-1907).
