Gottfried Kurth

Gottfried Kurth (born June 25, 1912 in Dresden ; † 1990 ) was a German anthropologist and university professor .

Live and act

Gottfried Kurth was the son of the district court president Paul Kurth and his wife Johanna, née Anhalt. After finishing his school career, he studied anthropology and history at the University of Jena from 1931 to 1936 . During his studies he joined the NSDAP in early March 1932 . In 1936/38 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat is doing her doctorate with a dissertation on race and status in four Thuringian villages. This was followed by further excavations in Thuringian villages.

After the war ended, he moved to the University of Göttingen in 1946 and received a grant from the DFG from 1954 to 1961, for which he worked as a freelance researcher. In 1955/56 he took part in the Jericho excavation on behalf of the British School of Archeology. From 1958 Kurth held teaching positions at the Technical University of Braunschweig . In 1960 he became a private lecturer at the Institute for Human Biology, Department of Anthropology. From 1966 he was a permanent professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig and from 1967 scientific advisor and professor. He retired in 1977.

His research areas were paleanthropology. Population Biology and History. He was the author of numerous specialist publications.
