Gottfried Pyl

Gottfried Pyl (* 1641 in Stralsund ; † beginning of February 1698 there ) was councilor and in 1698 mayor of Stralsund for two weeks.

Life

Gottfried Pyl came from a Stralsund patrician family. He attended the knight academy in Sorø , then studied in Copenhagen and Stockholm . He received his doctorate in law from the University of Greifswald .

In 1682 he was elected to the city council of Stralsund. He became mayor on January 10, 1698. He died just two weeks later.

Gottfried Pyl wrote numerous poems for weddings and especially funerals. After his death, numerous mourning poems were dedicated to him. 33 are preserved in the Stralsund city archive alone .
