Daniel Börtz

Daniel Börtz (born August 8, 1943 in Hässleholm ) is a Swedish composer.

Life

Börtz studied at the Royal Music College in Stockholm and from 1961 had composition lessons with Hilding Rosenberg . In the 1970s and 1980s he taught orchestration at the Royal Music College. From 1998 to 2003 he was President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music .

Börtz composed chamber music, orchestral works, including several instrumental concerts and twelve symphonies, and several operas. The opera Bakchen was premiered in 1991 at the Royal Stockholm Opera, directed by Ingmar Bergman . After its world premiere at the Folkoperan in Stockholm, the opera Marie Antoinette was performed fifty times in front of a sold out house. Börtz lives in Kungsängen near Stockholm.
