Gottfried Schüler (born May 9, 1923 in Falkenstein / Vogtl. , † December 25, 1999 in Göttingen) was a German artist.

Life

Gottfried Schüler was born in Falkenstein in Vogtland in 1923. He took part in the Second World War and became a prisoner of war. After the war he studied painting, graphics and building-related art at the University of Architecture and Fine Arts in Weimar , with Otto Herbig and Hanns Hoffmann-Lederer , among others . From 1951 he was based in Weimar as a freelance artist. From 1954 to 1974 he was an honorary lecturer at the University of Painting, Graphics and Building-Related Art in Weimar and in 1980 he became a full professor at the University of Weimar. In 1975 he received the city's art award. In 1989 Gottfried Schüler moved from the GDR to Osterode in the Federal Republic of Germany before the fall of the Wall . He died on December 25, 1999 in Göttingen.

The pupil mainly devoted himself to landscape painting. In Weimar he took on the colored design of the windows of the Kreuzkirche there .
