The company Gottfried Wicklein GmbH & Co. KG , based in Nuremberg, is a manufacturer of bakery products, in particular Nuremberg gingerbread . According to the company, it was founded in 1615 and is one of the oldest Nuremberg gingerbread factories

Companies

In 1988 the Gottfried Wicklein gingerbread and sugar factory was taken over by Lebkuchen-Schmidt . Since then, Wicklein has been run as an independent brand with its own range of products under the umbrella of the Schmidt Group and sold through food retailers. In addition to the classic Nuremberg gingerbread, the range also includes other pastries such as Spekulatius or cinnamon stars, and numerous items with the organic seal are offered. The total turnover of the group was most recently more than 81 million euros.

In 2016, the gingerbread biscuit opened as a Wicklein flagship store on Nuremberg's main market . It is currently the brand's only shop and, in addition to the usual range of baked goods, also offers gingerbread baking courses for individuals or groups. In cooperation with Feinkost Käfer , Wicklein presented the Dolcerini product line as a year-round pastry in March 2019 . In this way, Wicklein wants to position itself on the market in the future beyond the pure winter seasonal business.

Wicklein is a member of the Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry and has its products tested by the DLG eV.

Company history

The name of the company goes back to the manufacturer Gottfried Wicklein (1884–1953), the owner of a gingerbread and sugar factory. He was connected to the Jäckel family through his wife Gunda. Already at the beginning of the 17th century she had founded a gingerbread shop outside the city gates.

After the factory was completely destroyed in World War II, Karl Wicklein and Christa Walter, Gottfried Wicklein's children, rebuilt production and administration. In 1972 Karl Wicklein died at the age of 47. His successors in the company were then his son and daughter Christa Walters.
