Gotthelf Leberecht Berthold
Gotthelf Leberecht Berthold (* 1796 in fire in the Ore Mountains ; † October 26, 1851 ) was a German opera singer ( bass buffo ), stage actor and comedian .
Life
He took the stage in Chemnitz as an autodidact in 1815, then traveled for several years with small companies, where his bass developed more and more, and in 1818 took part in the Braunschweiger Hoftheater, where he worked to everyone's satisfaction until 1827.
Then he came to Düsseldorf, and it was only here that he actually found the opportunity to get into the sphere of activity to which he was entitled, by being extraordinarily lucky as a comedian and bass buffo. A year later he applied for an engagement at the court theater in Kassel, where he was one of the audience's favorites in comic roles until 1832, and then in Leipzig from 1832 until his death in 1852 [sic!].
It is worth mentioning that Albert Lortzing particularly valued his performance style and composed the bass buffo parts "van Bett" ( Zar and Zimmermann ) and "Kellermeister" ( Undine ) especially for him. Berthold died in Leipzig on October 26, 1851.
