Gottlieb Christian Henke ( 1743 in Sellwitz near Dresden - after 1814) was a German theater actor and singer .

Life

Henke began his theatrical career in 1768, was first engaged by Koch in Berlin and came to Ackermann and Schröder in Hamburg in 1778 , where he made his debut as "Wenzeslaus" in the Hofmeister . In 1786 he was hired by Pasquale Bondini to Prague, where he worked as an artist for a long time.

Then he became a member of the Dresden Theater and stayed on this stage when it was elevated to court theater. He did not retire until 1814.

His achievements in comedy and bourgeois drama, in rough, natural roles, were described as excellent. In the “Tender Fathers” a review from 1783 mentions “his eye was full of emotion and his tone glowing; he effectively painted the inner gnawing pain in eyes, expressions, gestures to the point of deception. He had a very peculiar talent for playing clergy, whatever color and style they were ”. His farmers, both in the drama and in the Singspiel, received great recognition.

The artist was married to the theater actress Anna Christine Schick (1753-1827).
