The Governor's Palace ( Italian : Palazzo del Governatorato ), formerly also the Governor's Palace (Italian: Palazzo del Governatore ), is a building on the territory of the Vatican City , which is located on the Vatican Hill directly behind the apse of St. Peter's Basilica . It is the seat of the Governorate of the Vatican City and the Pontifical Commission for the State of the Vatican City . In addition, u. a. the General Directorate of Technical Services and the Administration of the Vatican Post offices there.

The governor's palace was initially intended as the seat of a Franciscan seminary and was planned by Giuseppe Momo . Even before its completion in 1931, the palace became the seat of the governorate with the establishment of the State of Vatican City by the Lateran Treaty of February 11, 1929.
