Gozo Channel Line

The Gozo Channel Line of the shipping company Gozo Channel Company Limited is a provider of ferry connections from Malta based in Mġarr (Gozo). It maintains connections via the Gozo Canal between the main island of Malta and the sister island of Gozo . The company has existed since 1979.

Numbers and dates

Gozo Channel employs 240 people. On average, around 3.5 million passengers and 900,000 vehicles are carried annually on 19,000 journeys with currently three ferries.

Routes

There is a regular ferry service between Mġarr on Gozo and Ċirkewwa on the main island, every 30 or 45 minutes during the day and every 90 minutes at night. There is also a connection from Mġarr to Sa Maison on the main island, mainly for heavy goods vehicles. Connections to Sicily were also offered between 1981 and 1995 .

  • Gaudos (since 2001): Built in 2001 by Malta Shipbuilding in Valletta. It is 85.4 meters long, is powered by a 4000 kW engine and reaches a speed of around 13 knots. The ship is measured at 4874 GT. It can carry 900 passengers and 72 vehicles.
  • Malita (since 2002): Built in 2001 by Malta Shipbuilding in Valletta. It is 85.4 meters long, has a 5300 kW drive and reaches a speed of around 13 knots. The ship is measured at 4874 GT. It can carry 900 passengers and 72 vehicles.
  • Nikolaos : Built in 1987 by North East Shipbuilders in Sunderland . The ferry is 95.8 meters long. The drive motors produce 3880 kW. The ferry reaches a speed of around 14 knots. The ship is measured at 996 GT. It can carry 650 passengers and 160 cars.
