Gudahagen burial ground

The Iron Age , enclosed burial ground Gudahagen (RAÄ-Nr. Näsum 5: 1) southwest of Näsum is north of the Gudahagsvägen (road) and south of the Holjeån river on a hill near Bromölla in Skåne in Sweden . In old maps the area is also called “Gamle kyrkogård med backar” ( German  “old cemetery with hill” ) Tempelplatsen, ( German   Tempelplatz ) or Gullstringsbacken. When the first traces of the graves and building stones were found, the name "Gudahagen" was born because there is a resemblance to "Gudahagar" in Iceland .

Gudahagen burial ground

Due to its character and its size, it is one of Schoen's most interesting prehistoric burial grounds . Originally at least 250 stones were placed on the 50 meter long sides, which are largely missing on the east side. A sharp edge of the terrace shows where you were. Two stone-paved ramps in the west lead into the complex, in which there are roes, as well as cremation and body graves.

Below the enclosure is the Kyrkekurre pit, which used to be filled with water, where -kurre means hiding place or storage place. The swamp could have been a prehistoric place of sacrifice.

The Viking Days take place here every year in September .
