Gumhem burial ground
The grave field of Gumhem ( Swedish Gumhems gravfalt ) is located on the Jätteudden peninsula on the southeast side of Lake Åsunden , about seven kilometers north of Horn in the municipality of Kinda , in the Swedish province of Östergötland County .
One of the largest preserved ship settlements in Östergötland lies on the burial ground . The graves on the banks of the Åsunden are dated to the Iron , Vendel and Viking ages (500–1050 AD)
The stone ship lies on a ridge and consists of 22 menhirs , which in a south-easterly direction form a ship 17.5 m long and 5.0 m wide. In connection with the stone ship there is a burial ground with 24 visible graves, a stone circle ( German "Richrerring" ) and three oval stone circles. In the areas between the stone circle and the stone ship, some pearls and a spearhead were found , which probably belonged to a grave destroyed by agriculture.
The legend tells of a settlement of the Viking chief "Kung Vitting", but the area was mainly used as a burial place.
