The mountain Gråkallen is the second highest point in the area of the municipality of Trondheim in Norway . It is located west of Trondheim in the Bymarka .
At the top of the mountain there is a radome (until 2013 two domes) of the Norwegian Air Force, which can be seen from afar .
Since the end of the 19th century, the slopes of the mountain were used for ski competitions. The Skistua Inn was built east of the mountain in 1895 . There is a ski lift on the southern slope of Gråkallen.
Access
The mountain is not particularly steep and is accessible from all sides with sturdy shoes.
A line of the city bus goes to Skistua . Another option for public transport is the Gråkallbanen tram . It runs as line 1 from the St. Olavs gate stop in Trondheim city center via a panoramic route to the Lian settlement. Follow the Lianhaugen road up into the forest opposite the hotel . After a few hundred meters , a narrow path branches off towards Solemsåsen . It leads about a kilometer over forest, swamp and heather until it comes back to the road. A comfortable detour, which can also be walked with simple shoes and a pram, simply follows the Lianvegen from Lian .
