Grêmio Osasco Audax , GO Audax or Audax for short , is a Brazilian football club in Osasco in the state of São Paulo .

history

The club was founded on December 8, 1985 under the name Pão de Açúcar Esporte Clube ("Sugar Loaf Sports Club") by the owners of the Brazilian supermarket chain Pão de Açúcar as an athletics club for children and young people. A youth football department was not set up until 2003, from whose offspring a professional team was finally set up in 2007, which received permission to start the Segunda Divisão, the fourth division of the São Paulo state championship , from the Paulista national association FPF . As a league champion in 2008 he was promoted to the Série A3 and in 2009 immediately to the Série A2.

On July 17, 2011, the club name was renamed Audax São Paulo Esporte Clube (Audax SP) in order to generate a common following with Audax Rio de Janeiro , the second professional club operated by Pão de Açúcar. On April 28, 2013, the club made its promotion to the Série A1 perfect, the top division in the state of São Paulo. Immediately afterwards, on May 22, 2013, the French trading consortium Croupe Casino took over the majority of the shares and thus also the ownership of the association from Pão de Açúcar. Since the new corporate management in Saint-Étienne wanted to limit their business area to trading and were not prepared to maintain two Brazilian professional teams for cost reasons, it was decided to sell them. On September 22, 2013 Audax SP was sold to Mario Teixeira, president of Banco Bradesco and board member of local rival Grêmio Esportivo Osasco . With the change of ownership, there was also a change to the current club name and the adoption of a new club logo, which is borrowed from that of the Grêmio Esportivo.

The 2016 season marks the most successful season in the history of the GO Audax club to date. In the first half of the year, the club not only succeeded in qualifying for the final round in the national championship, it also contested it as an outsider into the final. Along the way, they eliminated São Paulo FC in the quarter-finals and the reigning Brazilian champions SC Corinthians in the semi-finals . It wasn't until the final that defending champions Santos FC were beaten 1: 1 and 0: 1. However, reaching the finals resulted in the club's first qualification for Serie D of the Brazilian national championship in the second half of 2016, as well as for the Copa do Brasil 2017.

Women's soccer

In 2015 GO Audax founded its women's football department, which is now a first division team in Brazil.
