The women's football department of the Grêmio Porto Alegre club (officially: Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense ) was founded in 1997 and reorganized in 2017 after a break of several years. The team's home ground is the Presidente Hélio Dourado training center in the suburb of Eldorado do Sul .

history

Grêmio founded his women's football department in 1997 on the occasion of the Rio Grande do Sul women's football championship launched that year by the Federação Gaúcha de Futebol (FGF) . As in the men's championship, the club dominated and competed here with its city rival SC Internacional . In the years 2000 and 2001 the championship title could be won. Well-known players of this time were the national players Daiane "Bagé" , Tânia "Maranhão" , "Maravilha" Wahlbrink , Maycon and the young player Maurine . After the 2005 season, the club dissolved its women's team.

Gremio returned to women's football for the 2017 season. The hastily re-assembled team was immediately allowed to compete in the newly established first division (Série A1) of the national women's championship , but ended the season second to last in the overall standings and was therefore relegated to the second division (Série A2). In the state championship, the club reached the final and lost it on penalties on December 9, 2017 against Internacional. In the 2018 final, Grêmio was also able to return the favor with a penalty shoot-out and win the third championship title with which the team qualified for the Série A2 2019.
