The women's football department of Internacional Porto Alegre in Brazil was founded in 1984 and reorganized in 2017 after a break of several years.

history

Internacional Porto Alegre is one of the pioneers of women's football in Brazil. Five years after the legal ban on organizing this sport by clubs, he founded his women's football department in 1984, which existed until the early 1990s and was one of Brazil's leading talent forges. In 1996, the women's team was reorganized on the initiative of long-time club active and former national player Eduarda "Duda" Marranghello Luizelli, who from 1997 to 1999 won the first three events of the newly founded state championship of women's football in Rio Grande do Sul . Two more championship titles followed in 2002 and 2003 and in 2007 the club was among the participants in the first competition for the Copa do Brasil Feminino . A well-known active player of this time was the national player Rosana dos Santos Augusto . After the 2007 season, this club section was followed by a period of almost ten years.

In the spring of 2017, the management of Internacional announced the reorganization of its women's football team and its participation in the national championship, after city rival Grêmio FBPA had announced its return to women's football. Duda Luizelli was once again entrusted with team management. On December 9, 2017, Internacional secured the 2017 national championship after a penalty shoot-out in the final against Grêmio FBPA. With the title win the qualification for the second division (Série A2) of the Brazilian championship of the following year is connected.

Although Internacional missed the sporting promotion to the Brazilian upper class in the 2018 season, the club was still able to move up to the Série A1 of 2019 . He benefited from the withdrawal of the Rio Preto EC from the competition, for whose starting place he was nominated again.
