The Green lichen beef tensioner ( Cleorodes lichenaria ), including Green bark lichens Tree tensioner or beef lichen-green tensioner called, is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the tensioner (Geometridae).
features
butterfly
With a wingspan of 25 to 35 millimeters, the moths are one of the smaller species of cortex. The light gray forewings show a greenish over-dusting only in freshly hatched specimens, which, however, fades very quickly and turns into a washed-out gray-brown tint. A middle shadow is usually missing. The front wings are darkly pollinated and show an elongated center. Two black transverse lines are characteristic, the outer lines protruding strongly towards the hem. The fringes are checked in black and white. There is a strongly serrated black transverse line on the hind wings. The border contains some black, crescent-shaped drawing elements. The antennae of the males are strongly combed on both sides, those of the females are thread-like and scaly.
Caterpillar
Adult caterpillars are transversely folded and have clear, pointed double humps on the fourth and eighth segments. Their color varies from moss green to green-gray and shows black spots on the sides. As a result, they are adapted in shape and color to the lichens on which they live. The scientific name of the species is also derived from the Latin lichenes = lichen.
Doll
The red-brown, slender doll has two thorns and two pairs of very small hooks on the short cremaster .
Geographical distribution and occurrence
The distribution area of the green lichen-bark spanner stretches through large parts of Central Europe to the Black Sea area and the Caucasus . In the Alps , it rises to an altitude of 1200 meters. The species often lives in moist forests and hedge areas, but was also found on warm limestone slopes.
Way of life
The moths are nocturnal and fly to artificial light sources as well as bait . The main flight times of the first generation are the months of May and June. A second generation lives from late July to late September. The caterpillars feed on lichens that grow on ash trees ( Fraxinus ), poplars ( Populus ), elms ( Ulmus ), Scots pines ( Pinus sylvestris ) and plums ( Prunus domestica ) or on walls and roofs. The second generation caterpillars overwinter.
Danger
The species occurs in different numbers in the German federal states, is mostly very rare, is considered to be lost in some areas and is therefore classified in category 1 ("threatened with extinction") on the Red List of Threatened Species .
